While turning down acting roles that require extensive production periods Vil says that in his first year he kept up several jobs that he’d committed to prior to enrolling at NRC.
He says he is currently focusing on modeling gigs that he can balance with his schoolwork, and he is hired as a model to promote a movie at a film festival.
He brings Ace, Jamil, Azul, the prefect and Grim along to carry his shopping bags, protect him from paparazzi and fans, touch up his makeup and take pictures of him as he walks the red carpet. They are allowed to keep clothing that they wear as a part of fulfilling these roles in compensation.
The group has dinner with the actor/producer who hired Vil for the job (Vil’s father), to whom Vil introduces the other students as his porters for the day.
Eric tells Vil that his professionalism is why he knew he was the right person for the job, and Vil tells the other students that they were the perfect accessories.
Eric asks if he will be able to produce Vil’s first feature after Vil graduates from NRC as soon as he is ready to get back into acting and Vi responds, “only if your terms are acceptable to me.”
Vil is also hired as ambassador for shoe brand Ténèbres while enrolled at NRC, after Jade procures him a pair of the brand’s “mirror heels” and the designer sees a picture of him wearing them at a party.
According to Rook, becoming their ambassador was something that Vil has always dreamed of.
In his third year at NRC we have also seen Vil interviewed by a magazine, do another interview on fishing, accept an offer to do a commercial for fishing gear as a result of that interview, prepare for an appearance on a cooking program, do a magazine shoot, and receive several requests to put in appearances at future Halloween events.
Vil becomes interested in Playfulland after hearing about a guarantee that anyone who puts on a show is guaranteed to become stars, having heard that “the park puts on superb performances far beyond anything you can find elsewhere.”
Vil is suspicious, saying that it sounds like smoke and mirrors, but Ortho reports that Fellow gave no indication that he was lying through pupil dilation, body language or pulse. Vil says he cannot imagine Ortho erring in his calculations and wonders if the park can truly live up to the rumors.
When he appears at the meeting place Vil insists that he finds the entire situation highly suspicious, saying, “If he’s a charlatan capable of passing lies off as the honest truth, these spudlings wouldn’t stand a chance on their own,” and that he deemed it safest to keep an eye on them personally to ensure that nothing happens.
Leona responds, “You were just drawn to the promise of a stage performance and you know it. There’s no way you could resist the allure of a show put on at an illusionary theme park,” and Vil admits that he would be lying if he said he wasn’t interested.
