Vil and Leona (pt4)

While driving through the savanna Vil suggests that Leona slow the car down before they drive through a puddle but Leona speeds up, instead, splashing mud on Vil’s face and ruining his makeup.

Vil is unamused how Leona had followed all the best practices as a driver the day before but suddenly has no shred of etiquette and Leona refers back to the beginning of the event when Vil, Jack and Lilia had laughed at him for not knowing anything about rules, best practices or etiquette (Vil: “Don’t tell me you’ve got some chip on your shoulder because of that!…Would you mind not taking your stress out on us?!”)

Leona says that he has always liked cars because they let you get away on your own, but “I guess drivin’ with loudmouth passengers once in a while ain’t so bad either.”

Leona gives Vil a pen with no ink for his birthday. (Vil: “I think he just pawned it off on me because he couldn’t be bothered to dispose of it otherwise.”)

Vil scolds Leona for taking a nap during Book 6 and throwing off his sleep schedule, and when Ortho prepares a game that is popular with cats for Leona to play Vil responds, “Leona, beholden to his feline nature? Who knew he could be so adorable?” (Jamil silently comments on Vil and the others closing in on Leona “like sharks smelling blood in the water.”)

When Vil insists on bringing along a “special serum” with him after they have escaped their cells at STYX Leona teases him for worrying about dried skin, with Vil proudly revealing its purpose to Leona as a homing beacon for Rook later on.

The two exchange banter immediately before the final battle with Idia and Ortho in Book 6, starting with Vil teasing Leona about failing to strike down the brothers despite his bravado and Leona responding, “If I didn’t give a certain prima donna some time in the spotlight, he’d never let me hear the end of it.” Vil says that, thanks to Leona and Jamil, he had enough time to reapply his lip gloss and perfect his hair for the finale.
