Vill says knows how to take compliments and certainly doesn’t mind them, but he does not appreciate it when someone seems to be complimenting him insincerely: after being complimented by Fellow he calls him a “glorified huckster” and “absurdly suspicious,” saying, “All you’ve established is that you’re good at fawning over people. You’re the exact kind of adult people should steer clear of.”
Jamil flatters Vil in a vignette by calling him “the expert on all things beautiful” and the fairest one of all, complimenting his “superior aesthetic sense” when asking him for the favor of helping with decorations for an impromptu party that Kalim decided to throw for the headmage.
Jamil offers one of the banners he has brought in exchange for Vil’s services, which Vil accepts, cutting up the rest of the fabric to update the traditional design. Vil explains, “Slavish preservation of its original form only ensures that it will never live up to its potential. Not unlike a certain someone who came barging in here offering nothing but lukewarm flattery.”
Vill also calls Cater out on “empty flattery,” telling him to keep his mouth shut if he has nothing genuine to say.
Jade describes a day in Vil’s life as including “exercising in the morning, writing columns during break, modeling after classs…and to top it all off, he executes his job as housewarden with aplomb.”
Vil says his schedule “is packed with things even beyond (his) schoolwork and housewarden duties,” Trey refers to his Film Research Club activities and modeling work, and Vil says that he will treasure Trey’s gift of a neck massager because his tight schedule means that “bring able to squeeze in some self-care” will do him a world of good.
