We do not know the city where Vil was born. He explains, “as my work has had me trotting the globe from an early age, there isn’t anywhere in particular I call home.”
Vil says that the Fairest City (EN: Maquillaville) is where he would pick as a hometown as he has visited often both as an actor and as a model, and he still visits as an NRC student for the shopping.
Vil’s father is Eric Venue, who is first mentioned by name in Vil’s halloween vignette where Ortho is able to identify him based on one of his most famous roles as “a monster hero who fights with his claws.”
Vil explains that “Eric Venue” (or possibly just “Venue”?) is his father’s stage name.
Vil says that they originally did not publicize their relationship, but he has since relaxed his stance on the issue as he has done enough in his career to prove that he is a performer in his own right rather than just Eric’s son (Eric is both an actor and movie producer).
Eric arranges for a studio tour and makes a reservation at a famous restaurant for Vil and other NRC students, saying that he “just wanted to meet some of (his) son’s friends,” and he teases Vil for being embarrassed, saying that he will have to arrange for more family time if it makes him so happy.
Eric says that he had been worried about Vil’s ability to adapt to life in a dorm because it was often just Vil alone and their home with their housekeeper when he was younger.
Azul asks if they didn’t live together and Vil explains they were both so busy that they just didn’t overlap very often, saying, “it made me very appreciative of the quality time we did get.”
Eric explains that rather going places together they “mostly just took it easy and stayed home” when their schedules did overlap, as they would attract so much attention by going out in public that it was hard to relax.
Vil says, “We’d often pass the time by making our own beauty products and supplements. Dad can’t use magic, but he knows a lot about beauty products, so it was a lot of fun creating things together.”
A studio staff member asks for a picture of Vil with the other students after their tour, saying it was a request from Vil’s father, as it might be useful for a behind-the-scenes article being written about a film that Eric is producing and acting in.
Having been hired to promote the film Vil agrees, saying that he is contractually obligated anyway, but Jamil and Azul suspect that Eric is using the job as a pretext to get the photo of Vil and the others for himself.
Vil says that Eric is a “doting father,” explaining in an early birthday vignette that he received a congratulations card from him for being offered the role of brand ambassador for a famous shoe brand before Vil himself has actually shared the news with him.
Vil says, “No matter how busy he is, he always finds the time to keep track of my goings-on.”
Azul describes Eric as “one of the most famous actors in the world” and the “star of countless blockbusters,” with Jamil saying “he’s a bigger deal than I even thought.”
It seems that Eric’s laugh sounds exactly like Vil’s, and Jamil says, “Eric Venue tends to play cool and gritty parts in movies, but l’d always heard he had a really gentle laugh. Supposedly that’s part of his popularity.”
Ace says, “There’s not a person alive who wouldn’t fall for those charms… Guess Vil will be like that too, in the future,” commenting on how handsome Eric is up close.
Azul says that Eric’s aura is “fascinating” and both gentle and imposing at the same time, and when Ace compliments his fashion sense, he says that fashion is a hobby of his.
Eric also performs his own stunts in his movies, and says that he does not use body doubles when he has to play instruments or dance for a role: “As soon as I get cast, I just start taking lessons, or working on my body. Whatever I need to do.”
Jami says he can’t believe how Eric disappears into his roles, changing drastically from action to comedies.
It seems that Eric may have had issues in the industry in the past. Vil explains, “Tabloids criticized him as a third-rate actor who was all looks, and made up ridiculous scandals about him. Despite all that, he used his connections to keep getting small parts and stick it out in the competitive film industry.”
Jamil says that he remembers a lot of the rumors there were about him and Vil explains that Eric kept working on his craft, started starring in hit films and then launched his own production company to start making his own hits: “Now he’s on top of the whole industry.”
Ace compliments Eric for being able to “shut out all the noise” of the rumors “and just keep grinding” and Eric says he has his faults, with Vil volunteering the information that he is “completely useless at housework,” saying, “The housekeeper is always yelling at you for messing up the kitchen or the laundry.” Eric asks to change the subject.
Azul describes Eric as “elegant and chic” and Jamil says he seems kind and comfortable in his own skin, and Vil says they are naive: “When in film producer mode, Eric Venue is a showbusiness demon. He sets his sights high, and will stop short of nothing to achieve his goals. He never budges in negotiations, and does not tolerate mistakes.”
Eric Venue has also received a “Legend Award” from the studio producing one of his films, and Vil says he hopes to have his own handprint on display at the studio for a Legend Award one day, as well: “I want to be a big star, even bigger than my father.”
After visiting Disneyland in 2022, Yana shared pictures of Disney LEGENDS handprints on display, including animator Marc Davis and Tokyo Disney Resort CEO Kagami Toshio.
Vil says that Eric would read him a picture book about the tale of the Fairest Queen before he was old enough to read for himself and that Eric would come home with “a unique costume and makeup” every year on Halloween, and “being meticulous must run in the family.”
Vil says he has a memory of enjoying Beanfest together with Eric on a break between movie shoots that he will never forget, and that the yused to go to the tropics together for the holidays when he was younger.
Eric sends Vil postcards on his birthday, which Vil says he looks forward to receiving as Eric travels the world “quite extensively” and he likes seeing where he’s been.
It seems that Vil also used to travel “all over the world” with Eric before enrolling at NRC, saying, “The opportunity to interact with people from so many different places was a priceless gift from my father. It taught me to be a better judge of character, not to mention I got to analyze different kinds of behavior, which helped with my acting…And learning about various cultural practices and cuisines has sometimes given me inspiration for new potions.”
Vil also mentions accompanying Eric on a shoot in the savanna, where they barbecued “and had such fun…it was like a camping trip to me.”
Vil also mentions seeing a live-action movie adaptation of a video game with Eric.
The Tapis Rouge event (EN: Vil’s Red Carpet Cadets) revolves around Vil receiving an offer from Eric to promote a new movie, that Eric himself is both acting in and producing.
Vil says that he had no magical education prior to enrolling at NRC: “No one around me was able to offer instruction either. Even if my father was able to use magic, which he isn’t, he was far too busy.”
When asked to describe a time that he was grateful that he is able to use magic, Vil tells a story from his first year when both he and Eric had days off at the same time, so they decided to go into town but were spotted by paparazzi.
They were not able to lose the paparazzi in the crowds and Vil didn’t have the skills at the time to conceal them, so he used color changing magic to give their outfits a new look, which fooled the paparazzi long enough for them to get away.
Vil says, “The best part was, once they were gone, my father told me how impressed he was,” and Jade responds, “So that’s why you were glad you could use magic-because it helped your father see how much you’d grown.”
Vil says that he was too busy as a child between traveling the world and growing his acting career to focus on his magic after it manifested. As Eric is magicless Jade asks if that means Vil’s magical abilities came from his mother and Vil responds, ”Who can say? I have no idea who she was, let alone whether she was a mage. Nor have I ever cared to find out.”
Jade comments on how surprising it is that Vil did not receive magical instruction from an early age as “One does not become housewarden of Pomefiore without considerable talent” and Vil explains, “crafting makeup is something akin to potionology. So in that sense I suppose I HAD begun my studies before enrolling here. But apart from that, in principle everything ! know about magic l’ve learned since coming to Night Raven College.”
