Changes Made to the Twisted Wonderland Anime English-Language Adaptation: Episode 5

Original Anime Ace: Another weird rule.

EN Anime Sub Ace: Another weird rule.
EN Anime Dub Ace: Power-tripping pretty boy.

The localization change of “Salisbury steak” to “hamburger” from the EN game has been upheld in the EN-dub of the anime. In the EN-sub and manga it was translated directly as “Hamburg steak.”

Original Game Trey: ……the Housewarden assumed his position less than a week after enrolling.
Original Manga/Anime Trey: Riddle became housewarden less than a week after enrolling.

EN Game Trey: Riddle managed to secure the housewarden title before the end of his very first week at school.
EN Manga Trey: Riddle became Housewarden less than a week after he started here.
EN Anime Sub Trey: Riddle became Housewarden in less than a week of entering the academy.
EN Anime Dub Trey: Riddle was assigned his position less than a week after entering the academy.

(Riddle was not assigned his position; he took it by force.)

Original Game Ace: Ugh, I don’t have that much money.
Original Manga/Anime Ace: I don’t have enough money to buy a whole one.

EN Game Ace: Seriously? I don’t have that much money!
EN Manga Ace: I don’t have the money to buy a whole tart!
EN Anime Sub Ace: I don’t have enough money to buy a whole one.
EN Anime Dub Ace: I’m a broke college kid, I can’t buy a whole one.

(The EN-dub anime is possibly choosing to uphold the EN game localization of “high school” to “college,” though Ace did not say either in this line. More here ▶︎)

Original Manga/Anime Leona: I was having myself a good nap.

EN Manga Leona: Here I was enjoying a nice little nap…
EN Anime Sub Leona: I was having myself a good nap.
EN Anime Dub Leona: I was having myself a nice little cat nap back there.

(Leona has never referred to himself as a cat in canon, although the EN game (and now EN anime dub ) has added it before to his dialogue.)

Original Manga/Anime Yuuken: Then I’ll apologize again.

EN Manga Yuuken: Then allow me to apologize again.
EN Anime Sub Yuuken: Then I’ll apologize again.
EN Anime Dub Yuuken: Well, it was an accident.

Original Game/Manga/Anime Ruggie: Today’s a remedial class day.

EN Game Ruggie: We got after-school classes today, remember?
EN Manga Ruggie: You have remedial classes today.
EN Anime Sub Leona: You’ve got supplementary lessons today.
EN Anime Dub Leona: You gotta quit skipping your classes.

(The EN game localization here is also a little different, insinuating that Ruggie, too, has to take supplementary lessons.)

Original Game/Manga/Anime Leona: Be careful.

EN Game Leona: There’s gonna be a price to pay.
EN Manga Leona: You better watch your back.
EN Anime Sub Leona: You better be prepared.
EN Anime Dub Leona: Be prepared.

(It is fascinating that “be prepared” has been added here after being removed from 90% of the EN game and the promotion for season 2 of the anime. More here ▶︎ )

Original Anime Grim: This guy is too suspicious.

EN Anime Sub Grim: He’s way too suspicious.
EN Anime Dub Grim: Did he say “mummified remains”?

Original Game/Manga/Anime Deuce: Next time you eat an egg, you better apologize to it a hundred times first!

EN Game Deuce: Next time you eat an egg, you better apologize a hundred times, you buncha chumps!
EN Manga Deuce: Next time you want to eat an egg, you better apologize to it a hundred times first!
EN Anime Sub Deuce: You’re gonna have to apologize 100 times before you eat another egg.
EN Anime Dub Deuce: By the time I’m done with you, you’ll never even wanna look at another egg.

Original Manga/Anime Deuce: Omurice…

EN Manga Deuce: Omurice…
EN Anime Sub Deuce: It’s omurice.
EN Anime Dub Deuce: Mom’s omelet rice!

(Combined with having Deuce say “mommy” in an earlier episode, the EN-dub anime seems to be adding heavy emphasis to Deuce’s relationship with his mother.)

Original Anime Heartslabyul Student: The Housewarden is always going on about rules, rules—there’s got to be a limit!

EN Anime Sub Heartslabyul Student: The Housewarden won’t shut up about the rules. He’s taking it too far.
EN Anime Dub Heartslabyul Student: How are we supposed to remember all these stupid rules? Riddle’s taking all of this way too far.

(Originally the student does not refer to Riddle by his first name.)

Original Anime Riddle: What do they all think rules are even for? It is honestly unbelievable.

EN Anime Sub Riddle: What exactly does everyone take the rules for? I can’t believe their audacity.
EN Anime Dub Riddle: I am truly baffled by the audacity of these fools. What do they take the rules for?

(Canonically Anime-Riddle has never name called anyone as of this episode.)
