Jamil is often apologizing, both for himself and on behalf of others: Trein is displeased when Jamil’s line of questioning leads the students to pressing Trein for more information about “a memorable date spot” for himself and his wife in Fleur City, and Jamil responds, “I apologize. I was only engaging in some light banter. I had no idea those four would show such interest in the topic.”
Jamil also apologizes to Azul in Azul’s dream of Book 7, as a part of a ruse that successfully separates him from dream-Floyd.
When Jamil questions Silver’s information on the Spectral Realm, saying, “Did you hear that from a reliable source?,” Silver responds, “Yes. My father’s seen it himself.”
Jamil apologizes, saying, “I’m sorry if I brought up some painful memories,” but Silver then reveals, “He glimpsed the Spectral Realm, said ‘Oh, crumbs!’ and came right back.” (Jamil: “That’s not what I was expecting, but all right.”)
Towards the end of their descent into Tartarus Leona comments that Jamil has started showing his emotions more and is “not bothering to hide (his) annoyance,” to which Jamil responds, “Yes, well… I’m pretty worn out. If l’ve offended you, I apologize.” (Leona: “It’s a lot better than your usual sycophantic attitude.”)
During the Firelit Sky event Jamil apologizes on Grim’s behalf when he falls into a canal, and he apologizes on behalf of an ice cream vendor who teases Malleus with the ice cream he has ordered instead of handing it to him directly (“АAАННН! I am SO SORRY, Malleus. It’s supposed to be a bit of fun, but I must apologize for their rudeness!”)
Jamil will also apologize for Kalim, such as in a vignette where Kalim runs down a hall and bodily into Malleus, offering his “sincerest apologies” and scolding Kalim for being more flippant (“What kind of apology is that?!”). Jamil then apologizes to Malleus again.
A textile vendor in Silk City is less than welcoming of Jamil’s group, saying, “I don’t need a bunch of kids treating our carpets like they’re supposed to fly,” to which Jamil responds, “Again, I must apologize for when Kalim did that. He was very young and didn’t know any better.”
In an early vignette Riddle says he will to do a sprint in class with Kalim on the condition that he does “not say a word after (they’re) finished. Kalim agrees but then comments anyway, saying, “It’s kinda nice to see even you can’t come first in everything. Between you and Azul, I thought I was the only sophomore housewarden who wasn’t amazing at just about everything, but—“ being physically silenced by Jamil before he can continue, with Jamil apologizing on Kalim’s behalf: “I’m sorry, Riddle. Kalim meant nothing by that.”
During his dream of Book 7, Jamil apologizes for Kalim’s behavior least twice.
Jamil prepares a trap prior to Beanfest that will allow him to eliminate Kalim from the game without getting in trouble with his parents, who have ordered him to always lose to Kalim in competitions.
Jamil says, “Beanfest is a team-based competition. That means I don’t have to follow the same rules I do when competing with Kalim one-on-one. If by some chance my parents still get cross about it later, well…All I have to do is offer a humble apology…yhat should be enough for them to let the matter go.”
