In his dream of Book 7 an abyss-version of Jamil tells him that they are both fated to be trapped their whole lives, “constantly run ragged” and “dreaming of someone setting us free,” and Jamil responds, “The last thing I want is to entrust my wish to someone else,” and later, “It’s not my style to sit back and wait for someone else to solve my problems.”
When asked about being stranded on a deserted island he says that he would try to escape rather than wait for rescue, though he follows with, “A deserted island is bound to be crawling with bugs. An extended stay would be ABSOLUTELY out of the question.”
When Silver assures the Glorious Masquerade group that he will help protect them, Jamil responds, “It’s fine. We should all be looking out for ourselves anyway. That’s how I prefer it,” though during Beanfest Jamil is saved by Azul, and when he is unable to complete Kalim’s homework in a vignette he is saved by Floyd (via Riddle’s stolen notebook).
