Jamil and Jade

Jami cautions Kalim for wandering around alone during Book 4 (“What if someone abducted you?”), but he is not pleased to learn that Jade had been with Kalim, saying, “Answer me. What did you do to Kalim?”

Jamil’s suspicion is proven to have been wholly justified, with Jade having used his unique magic on Kalim while Jamil was distracted by Azul and Floyd, enabling Jade to confirm that Kalim was “being magically mind-controlled by someone.”

It is Jade who claims to have revealed Jamil’s confession to the world, saying that his monologue was “live-streamed to the world from Azul’s smartphone. Azul’s Magicam livestream presently has five thousand active viewers. It’s trending online under the topic: ‘A Certain Magicians’ School’s Dirty Little Secret.’”

This is, however, later proven to have been lie, with Azul explaining, “All I did that day was put my smartphone on a speaker call with Jade.”

After being ejected from Scarabia by an overblotted Jamil, Kalim blames himself, to which Jade responds, “The way you blame yourself and try to excuse his behavior is, quite frankly, a tad galling…It’s okay to hold your head high and denounce him for the traitor that he is.”

During Book 6 Jamil might have accomplished slight revenge against both Azul and Jade, revealing Jade’s unique magic to Vil, Riddle, and Leona. Jamil follows with, “Oh dear, I said something I shouldn’t have. I’m fairly certain he wouldn’t want me sharing that, so please do keep it to yourself,” but Azul replies, “You let it slip on purpose, didn’t you?” (Jamil: “Why, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”)

During Jade’s dream of Book 7 Jamil says, “The real Jade gave me the impression he’s more willing to listen to others’ opinions than Floyd,” to which Fkoyd responds, “Do you pay attention at all? Jade’s NEVER cared about what other people say. It drove Mama and Pops nuts. The only thing he’s ever been good at is pretendin’ to be a model of good behavior. It’s a huge pain.”

In a vignette where Jamil refuses to reveal the name of a certain dish despite Kalim’s pressing, Jade interrupts with, “Could we ask the name of this dish?,” and Jamil concedes. Despite Jamil saying “It’s far from ideal for selling at a café” Jade responds, “Well, perhaps we can discuss the details once we get a taste of your cooking.” Jamil replies, “Wait, I never once said I would—good grief.”

Jamil is shocked when Jade reveals he would rather go in pursuit of Lock during the NBC event in order to surprise Azul and Riddle rather than meet the deadline that will ensure that they will be able to return home, saying that Azul and Riddle “don’t remotely fear making fools of themselves or failing. Or incurring grudges from others with their self-centered conduct.”

Jamil asks, “Again, where are you going with this? Are you insinuating that in contrast to them, I’m a coward afraid to act for fear of failure?,” to which Jade replies, “Not in the least. The point I’m making is, those two are almost certainly putting on some truly hilarious sketch comedy. We should go have a laugh at them together.” (Jamil: “THAT’S NOT FUNNY!”)

Jamil then changes his mind, agreeing to Jade’s idea of finding Lock and, when they do, he explains, “You see, I’m a coward at heart. I’m afraid of failure, and I’m also afraid of making a public fool of myself. But I’m VERY good at making plans one step ahead of others.” (Jade: “Did you take my prior remarks personally?” – Jamil: “Not in the least!”)

Jamil receives a Harveston outfit from Jade and has a voiceline of, “I couldn’t tell what his reason for giving it to me was, so l got nervous and tried to turn it down, but he insisted I take it…”
