Jamil has voice lines of, “Rook creeps me out. I can never tell what he’s thinking. Even if I tried to plan around him, he could always do something unexpected,” and, “Do you think I’d show myself to you —an enemy—without a plan?,” and there are multiple examples in the game of Jamil planning out his movements in advance:
Jamil plans out and prepares a trap for Kalim during Beanfest that will enable him to eliminate Kalim as one member of a group rather than confronting him directly, which will enable him to technically adhere to the requirement of his position of servant that he is to always concede competitions to Kalim, even planning out an apologetic excuse for his parents should they suspect him of having been acting intentionally.
In Book 4 Jamil tells Azul, “Because of you, all my carefully laid plans have gone up in smoke. It was my way of getting Kalim ejected from his position without getting my own hands dirty,” and there might be parallels to Jamil’s ousting of Kalim during Beanfest and his attempt to do so again in the main story:
Jamil plans to eliminate Kalim indirectly rather than confronting him for a duel, which will enable him to take over Scarabia by popular demand while technically adhering to the requirement of his position of servant that he is to always defer to Kalim, even inviting the prefect and Grim to intervene similar to how they were “central in solving Heartslabyul’s problem.”
Jamil’s plan seems to be a combination of wearing down the students with an intense study/training schedule and downplaying his own suitability for the position of Housewarden, leading the students of Scarabia to demand that he step up, so that he will have no choice but to concede and take over from Kalim. This plan is ultimately compromised by Azul.
During the NBC event Jade observes, “You truly do prize your plans, don’t you, Jamil? I suppose that’s why you’re vice housewarden of Scarabia, the dorm of mindfulness. And Jamil responds, “Of course I do—that’s reasonable. As opposed to certain people who show no regard whatsoever for what’s currently at stake!”
Jade comments on how Azul and Riddle “don’t remotely fear making fools of themselves or failing. Or incurring grudges from others with their self-centered conduct,” and Jamil asks, “Are you insinuating that in contrast to them, I’m a coward afraid to act for fear of failure?”
Jamil then comes up with a new plan, declaring, “You see, I’m a coward at heart. I’m afraid of failure, and I’m also afraid of making a public fool of myself. But I’m VERY good at making plans one step ahead of others.” (Jade: “Did you take my prior remarks personally?” – Jamil: “Not in the least!”)
Jamil’s plan is revealed to be hypnotizing Lock, Shock and Barrel into betraying Skully (Skully: “That’s… That’s so… So LOW!” – Jamil: “‘Low?’ I think you mean ‘smart’”).
Jamil soon after scolds Sebek, saying, “You’re way too prone to desperate gambits. You need to come up with proper plans instead.”
Jamil also puts together the plan to separate a dream-Floyd from Azul in a deeper level of Azul’s dream, and before joining the fight against Malleus he tells Kalim, “Let’s review the tactics the other dorms used and formulate a plan of our own.”
In a birthday vignette where Jamil has learned that Kalim is planning to throw him a parade that he is not supposed to know about, he does “preliminary checks” for his own parade in preparation, due to the original planning being “full of holes.”
When he sees Scarabia students trying to hide plates from him he says, “I know nothing. I know nothing, but…please follow the plan…please…”
When Jamil and Ruggie become separated from the rest of their group by firelotuses during Glorious Masquerade, it is Jamil who devises the plan that saves them: getting Noble Bell College students to sacrifices themselves to the flowers through tricks and their unique magics: “We don’t have to outrun the flowers to escape them. We just have to outrun others nearby.”
Jamil also creates a plan for his group during Spectra Soiree to efficiently seize mirror fragments from ghosts, with Silver saying, “Scaring the ghosts, letting those with low morale escape, thus avoiding unnecessary fights…this was a fantastic idea. Your ingenuity is quite impressive, Jamil!”
It is also Jamil who comes up with the idea to us a dishcloth as a parachute during the Big-Little Adventure event.
When it is revealed that Jamil is to be on a team with Malleus during their time working at the school store for New Year Jamil observes, “I’ll need to come up with a plan to win this.”
