Jamil and Trey

Jamil approaches Trey during the opening ceremonies, saying, “Riddle is a stern and uncompromising leader. As his assistant, you must have your hands full,” and, “We both have our work cut out for us.” Trey congratulates Jamil on his promotion to Vice-Housewarden and Jamil responds, “Thank you for your kind words. I will do my best to learn from your example.”

During the Starsending event Jamil wishes “to take a trip by (himself),” and when Grim says, “Pretty borin’ wish if you ask me,” Trey disagrees, saying, “I thought it was a nice wish, personally. Alone time’s hard to come by when you’re at school. That’s not to say hanging out with people isn’t fun, just that sometimes you want a little peace and quiet. Am I on the right track, Jamil?” 

Jamil responds, “Couldn’t have put it better myself. I appreciate you looking at it from my perspective. You were pretty quick to answer, though. Let me guess—you feel the same way yourself sometimes.”

Trey purchases a bandanna during his visit to Silk City, admitting that he doesn’t know what he will use it for. Kalim invites him to visit Scarabia if he doesn’t know how to wrap it, saying, “Jamil will teach you!,” and Trey responds, “I’d hate to give Jamil even more work. I’ll make sure to learn how to do it myself.”

When Jamil is given less than 24 hours to prepare a banquet for Crowley he goes to Trey for help but Trey does not provide his assistance for free, having Jamil prune all of Heartslabyul’s rose bushes in return. (Jamil: “I clearly got the short end of the stick in terms of workload here. He completely took advantage of me and my predicament”).

After cooking Trey comments, “The presentation leaves something to be desired. It’s brown, brown, brown, as far as the eye can see. Color contrast is essential for plating,” and adds petals from edible roses, saying, “If you’re going to work yourself to the bone making good food, you may as well make sure people to enjoy every aspect of it.”

Before arriving in Silk City Jamil tells Trey, “Our hometown has a lot of food carts that specialize in different regional cuisines and desserts” and Trey says he is open to recommendations, adding, “You’re a great cook yourself, so anything you endorse has got to be good.” Jamil says, “Sure, I can show you some of my favorite restaurants.”

Jamil and Trey compliment each other’s cooking during the NBC event, with Trey saying, “It’ll be nice having a cook as skilled as you here,” and Jamil responding, “I’m glad to be working with an expert confectioner like yourself.”

When Idia says, “That leaves us as the useless ones. I guess I’ll just chill here” in reference to himself and Riddle Jamil responds, “Don’t worry. I’m not expecting anything out of either of you. I know that housewardens don’t do much in the way of hands-on work. I’m glad to be working with you, Trey.” (Trey: “Boy, way to put on the pressure…”)

Trey and Jamil spend an entire conversation complimenting one another and downplaying their own abilities, with Jamil saying, “I think I could learn a lot from you. I’m glad we ended up grouped together,” and Trey responding, “I could say the same! I hear the Scarabia students talk all the time about how good of a chef you are, and how vast your repertoire is. I’m mainly a confectioner, so I can’t exactly claim an across-the-board mastery of cooking. Don’t expect too much out of me beyond the sweets. I hope you’ll share plenty of pointers with me today.”

Jamil replies, “You give me too much credit. To be honest, fancy party food is not my specialty. I’m especially bad at plating things. I do fine with home cooking, but still…I find it impressive the way you whip up enough food to serve a crowd at a big tea party.”

From the side Idia comments, “Who are these mature dudes?! …Oh, never mind, my bad. They were talking like such typical guys with like careers and stuff, I mistook them for actual adults for a second. Trey and Jamil are basically the archetypes of functioning members of society at our school. And yet they still have that secret ulterior motive vibe that has ‘vice housewarden’ written all over it.”
