In Book 5 Jamil tells Rook that, while Vil is certainly beautiful, the way Rook talks about him makes it sound as though Vil is “a flower or a work of art.” Jamil says, “Vil doesn’t strike me as someone fragile or ephemeral, much less someone in need of protection.”
At the end of Book 5 Jamil suggests that they explain away the damage done to the coliseum during Vil’s overblot by saying they “got a little overly worked up in practice and got into a team brawl.” Vil asks, “You just want to pretend none of this happened?,” and Jamil responds, “I never said that. All I’m saying is that we can hold off on explaining this to the faculty until after the competition” (Vil: “Heh… Jamil, you are truly wicked”).
At the start of Book 6 Vil disparages himself for being a poor team leader, but Jamil responds, “Neige’s group was already popular. Our performance wasn’t going to change that. If we’d been at our best, that doesn’t mean we would’ve performed perfectly. And even if we had, we still could’ve lost. You can’t always beat someone that popular with hard work or a solid performance.”
When offered a video game at STYX, Jamil defers his turn to Vil. Vil is first to break out of his room at STYX during the Ortho-induced power outage, and the first member of the group he frees is Jamil.
After Jamil is told that he is to prepare decorations and a banquet for a party that is to be held in less than 24 hours he reflects, “I’ll begin with the decorations…Something both beautiful and cultural…Beautiful and cultural…beautiful…I know just who to ask.”
Jamil goes to Vil for advice, saying, “We require decorations, tableware, and treats that exceed an exacting standard of beauty. You being the expert on all things beautiful, I thought you the perfect person to consult…If you would be so kind as to use your superior aesthetic sense to instruct me how to make use of this…”
When Vil responds, “But surely you don’t expect me to offer my services for free?,” Jamil silently thinks, “I knew it! I was prepared for this,” and audibly replies, “I would never dream of asking Vil Schoenheit, the fairest of them all, to work for free,” offering one of the banners he has received for use in decorations to Vil in exchange, which he accepts.
Jamil silently reflects, “He’ll do the rest on his own. All I need to do is smile and nod.” He is briefly shocked by Vil’s decision to cut the “priceless fabric” with scissors, but Vil explains, “Slavish preservation of its original form only ensures that it will never live up to its potential. Not unlike a certain someone who came barging in here offering nothing but lukewarm flattery.” (Jamil: “Urk!”)
Rather doing the work and allowing Jamil to “smile and nod,” Vil orders him to fetch scissors and join in the preparations. Afterwards Jamil reflects, “I admire the fact that Vil never compromises on anything, but he certainly works people to the bone.”
Vil is criticizes Jamil’s dancing during Fairy Gala, telling him his performance “lacks charisma” and ordering him to “shape up by tomorrow” if he is to remain a part of the show. Jamil discovers on his own what it was that he had been missing, earning him Vil’s approval: “That’s right—the most critical component to a show is releasing one’s inner passion. And now your passion is reaching the whole venue, Jamil. Bravo.”
When Grim asks why Jamil seems so annoyed in a dream that is meant to make him happy Idia says, “I think this is following the same pattern as Vil’s dream,” and Ortho agrees, saying, “In Jamil’s case, Kalim is a source of stress for him, just like Neige is to Vil. But Kalim exerts an outsized influence over Jamil’s personality and capabilities in reality.” Vil says, “That’s a charitable interpretation. What if all he wishes deep down is to boss Kalim around?,” to which Idia responds, “Way to dunk on Jamil while conveniently ignoring your own dunkability.”
Vil has a Beanfest voice line of, “Those who play their cards close to their chest have a knack for distasteful tactics, I find. I’ll need to watch out for Jamil.”
With a dream-Jamil is trying to keep Kalim asleep in his dream, Kalim says, “We’re best friends that can be honest with each other,” to which Vil responds:
“Honest with each other? Oh, this is a FAR cry from the Jamil I know. He has a smoldering, hungry mindset, and that mindset is the reason I put Jamil on main vocals in the NRC Tribe. Is Jamil the kind of generous soul that affirms everything about you? You and I both know that’s not true. He complains. He secretly looks down on others. He’s always got a scheme or two up his sleeve, and he’s hardly trustworthy. If I were in your shoes, I’d never choose him for my most trusted retainer.”
When Jade offers to use his unique magic on Skully upon meeting him for the first time Vil responds, “I rather like that approach. Forcing some answers out of him would be the quickest way to solve this dilemma,” to which Jamil says, “For someone with such an elegant appearance, you’ve got some crude methods.”
Vil has an NBC voice line of, “I found the prankster trio getting ready to play a trick on Jamil. Did I stop them, you ask? Well, obviously…I pretended not to notice.”
While working out the specifics of a Halloween party with Jack Skellington, Jamil suggests that they ask for Vil’s advice, saying, “He’s an entertainer with experience performing for large crowds. He’d know a lot about all of this stuff, not just lighting.”
When Jack suggests having Malleus “send down a swarm of insects from the sky to scare everyone” Vil and Jamil simultaneously responds, “ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!,” with Vil saying, “There’s tacky, then there’s whatever THAT idea is,” and Jamil following with, “I couldn’t agree more!”
Jamil encourages Jack to “scare people on (his) own merits instead of relying on insects” and suggests that he hold a parade, referencing a story where someone in a parade rode on the back of an elephant. When Jade declares, “I suppose we have no other choice but to find an elephant” Vil responds, “Jamil is steering this conversation nicely. Don’t go derailing it now.”
When Jamil suggests a horse instead he slides across the screen towards Vil when explaining, “There are plenty of scenes in movies and storybooks of kings riding in on horses when making public appearances. Right, Vil?,” and Vil seconds his suggestion. Jade observes, “It’s impressive the way (Jamil) steered things into the realm of feasibility without outright denying the impossible,” and Vil responds, “I suppose handling unreasonable requests falls right within his wheelhouse. He even used me to do it. I suppose I should be grateful for his cunning.”
Jamil creates a salad dressing that is “Oil free, low calorie, low sodium, yet with a flavor that is second to none” upon Vil’s request for Port Fest, saying, “It took considerable effort to get it right—Vil has such exacting standards, and I had little time to come up with the recipe,” earning him Vil’s praise (“It’s a marvelous dressing. I’d expect nothing less from you”). When Vil asks permission to share the recipe with the students of Pomefiore, Jamil agrees.
Jamil briefly separates from the Tapis Rouge group when Ace wanders away into a shop on his own (“I went with him to keep him out of trouble”), but Vil then scolds them both, saying, “You must do as I say, at all times, understand? Slip up again and I’ll send you back to school!” (Jamil: “H-how come I’m getting chewed out too?”)
Vil submits profiles for each student to the designer who crafts their outfits for the event, with his profile for Jamil referring to him as “boring and always worrying needlessly behind the scenes.”
When Jamil later gives what is possibly a sarcastic reference to the profiles Vil replies, “You should be grateful for my honesty.”
When Azul volunteers to help Jamil find clothes or accessories he is interested in purchasing Jamil refuses his offer, saying, “I can get everything I need myself.” When he describes a leather jacker he would like to buy someday Vil says, “Allow me to point you in the direction of a few brands you might like,” leading Ace to ask why Vil refused to help him at all when he asked about buying a bag from Luxe. Vil replies, “Because you were looking for an easy way out. Something I detest. On the other hand, I love to see someone with a lofty goal who’s not afraid to work for it.“
Jamil plays a major role in Vil’s red-carpet walk, presenting him with the box that instigates his on-carpet transformation.
