Riddle and Kalim

In a gymwear vignette Kalim suggests that he and Riddle run a spint together, and Riddle responds, “I suppose it makes no difference with whom I run,” setting the condition that Kalim is not allowed to say a word after they finish.

Kalim agrees to the condition and they complete the sprint together. When Jamil asks what his time had been Kalim responds, “I can’t remember, but I’ll bet it’s faster than yours’ll be!,” and Riddle recites his time for him, saying, “Perhaps you should consider writing it down next time if you’re so quick to forget.”

Jamil thanks Riddle for babysitting Kalim in his absence and Riddle responds, “You deserve a break once in a while.”

Kalim then tells Riddle, “It’s kinda nice to see even you can’t come first in everything. Between you and Azul, I thought I was the only sophomore housewarden who wasn’t amazing at just about everything, but—“ until Jamil intervenes, apologizing to Riddle on Kalim’s behalf.

Riddle responds, “I thought we agreed you wouldn’t say a word after our sprint!”

When Kalim becomes trapped in the library during the Lantern event Jamil asks who he is with, saying, “If Riddle’s there, it should be safe for me to step away for a bit.”

Riddle magically catches Kalim when he falls through the window at the start of the event, and when Kalim begins he laugh Riddle responds, “This is nothing to laugh about! Everything you just did was a glaring breach of etiquette!”

Kalim shows the group the lantern he was catching, which resulted in his fall through the window, and says, “Good thing I caught it before it hit the ground.” Riddle replies, “Nothing about what you just did was ‘good’! You need to learn from this!”

Kalim says that Riddle investigating the barrier that appears in the window remind him of a pantomime and Riddle says, “This is no time for frivolous remarks.”

After Kalim volunteers to buy the four rare fruits in the school’s storage room Riddle thanks him, saying, “I’ve never been more grateful to have you around than now.”

Riddle becomes frustrated with both Kalim and Deuce during the vignette when they fall asleep instead of reading the books assigned to them, and when Riddle cautions Kalim for yawning during Housewarden meeting Kalim responds, “Whenever I yawn in Scarabia, Jamil prepares my bed for me!”

(Riddle: “Considering you and Leona-senpai, maybe sons of wealthy families are ill-suited to being housewardens…?”)

At the beginning of the Ghost Marriage event Kalim mentions “studying together” with Azul and Riddle, but Azul clarifies, “What you mean is, YOU were getting help from US, Kalim.” Riddle follows with, “He was so close to figuring out that problem too..”

Kalim has a voice line of, “Riddle gave me a reference book that he think I should use, but it has a lot of difficult words. I’ll have Jamil read it to me later!”

Determined not to rely on Jamil, Kalim again goes to Riddle for help during Book 7.5, but after Floyd points out “You’re still not doin’ it yourself if you ask Goldfishie for help, right?,” he leaves after Riddle answers his question.

In a vignette Kalim apologizes for a canceling a party that Riddle had already declines the invitation to, saying, “You simply ran off without waiting for my reply. So this doesn’t inconvenience me in the slightest.” When Kalim promises to invite him to the next party and leaves without waiting for a responds Riddle observes, “It’s no different from the day he invited me. He just never stops to listen.”

At the conclusion of the event, however, Riddle does attend the party, saying that Kalim “roped (him) into coming,” and, “There’s something about Kalim’s pushiness that throws me off, since I know his motives are entirely pure…”

Kalim invites Riddle to another party in another vignette and again refuses to take no for an answer: After hearing why Kalim, the Housewarden, is running errands alone, Riddle quietly reflects, “So they found a tactful way to toss you out.”

Kalim then suddenly asks if Riddle is getting enough sleep, saying, “You seem really on edge. All that stress is going to take a toll on you.”

Riddle responds, “Must I stand here and take advice from YOU?! You are so lucky you have Jamil to look after you.” After Riddle asks if Kalim is fine with the fact that it is the vice-Housewarden who keeps Scarabia running, Kalim responds, “You don’t have to take everything upon yourself either, you know. If you ever need help, you can always come to me,” and Riddle repeats, “And I ask again: must I stand here and take advice from YOU?!”

After Riddle refuses his party invitation three times, Kaim’s fourth attempt catches Riddle’s interest when he offers a ride on his magic carpet (Riddle: “The experience could prove valuable for my own study of flight”).

After learning that Kalim does not eat anything that has not been made by Jamil, Riddle wonders if Kalim has not been poisoned in the past, but Kalim does not seem to hear him, and leaves. Riddle reflects, “Perhaps that boundless positivity of his can befit a housewarden after all…”

The two Housewardens are seen sharing a dance together during Spectral Soiree, with Riddle telling Kalim not to change the steps of their dance midway.
