Jamil and Idia

When he approaches Idia in a vignette Idia responds, “Oh, h-hi, Jamil. Wish you wouldn’t sneak up on me like that…” to which Jamil says, “Apologies. I didn’t think you’d get such a fright from me…talking,” and Jamil says that he “never imagined” that Idia was a member of the famous Shroud family.

After Idia and Ortho explains why he and Idia have decided to reset the world in Book 6 Jamil responds, “I know it must be awful to be trapped by family obligations. But the trouble is, I can’t stand getting jerked around by those in power.”

Vil is not impressed by Jamil’s dancing in the lead-up to Fairy Gala, asking him if he knows what it is that he is missing. Shortly after Jamil happens upon Idia dancing along to a concert on his tablet and looks up the idol group, saying, “I’ve got no interest in idol groups, but that dance is fascinating. This might be worth looking into.” 

Jamil approaches Idia, who responds, “Great. Just great. Now you’re gonna blab about this to everybody, and soon the whooole school will be talking about me behind my back. So much for my halcyon school life…oh, wait. I never had that to start with. Still!” (Jamil quietly reflects, “I knew he was a character, but I didn’t realize how deep his…pathos went.”)

Jamil pretends to be a fan of the idol group (“He took the bait. Excellent. I’Il learn what | can. Whatever it takes to improve my dancing”), and though Idia labels him a “fake fan” for not knowing about “glowing,” revealing that he has never attended a concert, Idia still teaches Jamil the dance upon request.

Jamil’s Gala-day performance earns him praise from both Vil and Idia, who says, “GG, Jamil. The way you’re sweating together with the whole audience—now that’s what I call glowing!”

When asked who he would like to be with on a deserted island Idia chooses Jamil, saying:

“From the standpoint of ‘people I could stand to be around,’ I’d need someone used to harsh environments, task-oriented, respectful of boundaries, and preferably not reckless…He’ll say hello but won’t drag me into any awful small talk, which tells me he understands what lines not to cross. And if he works for Kalim, he knows how to be a bodyguard, right? Then he’s gotta have some stamina. Plus, the ‘tight-hand man’ characters in games and anime tend to be strong performers all around. He’d keep his cool in an emergency. Yeah, I think I’d have a pretty good chance of escaping with him.”
