Jamil and Lilia

Jamil and Lilia overlap prior to Beanfest when Jamil is prepping for his plot to take down Kalim, and Jamil decides not to share his plan due to the risk of Lilia being on Kalim’s team. Deducing that Jamil is gathering cooking ingredients Lilia offers to help (“I’m quite a deft hand in the kitchen”), and while Jamil kindly declines with, “No, really, I’ll be fine. But the sentiment is greatly appreciated,” it is only after internal dialogue of, “LIES. You’re a walking culinary disaster! I’ve heard horror stories about the kitchen abominations you’re responsible for!”

Jamil then claims that he is preparing bug repellent. Lilia says, “I was sure you were making shawarma!,” and Jamil silently responds, “How can you be so knowledgeable about cooking when you’re so atrocious at it?!”

Jamil decides to disengage from the conversation, reflecting on the “waste of time” that the conversation was, but the following day he finds himself paired up with Lilia. Jamil silently reflects, “He’s definitely a dependable ally, but something’s been slowly dawning on me since yesterday. It’s impossible to tell when he’s kidding and when he’s serious. I cannot deal with this guy!”

Jamil looks less than enthused whenever Lilia gives him orders, but does properly provide him with support when they clash with members of the opposing team.

For his birthday Sebek gifts Jamil with a traveler’s essay collection that Lilia has added too, providing sticky notes on “recommendations, things to be cautious of, and other trivia.”

Jamil says, “It’s all nicely summarized and easy to understand.” Jamil asks Sebek to thank Lilia on his behalf and adds, “While I think I’ll ignore his food reviews…I’ll certainly bring this book along whenever I do travel the world.”

When Jamil firmly denies Kalim’s offer to go to Playfulland, saying, “Some strange guy invites you to come play in a strange place, and you’re actually going to GO?,” Lilia responds, “Jamil’s objections are entirely rational,” and Jamil thanks him for “seeing reason.” 

When Kalim ignores Jamil and goes anyway, however, Lilia goes with him, saying, “Jamil wasn’t wrong to say this was blatantly suspicious and far too good to be true…I respect Jamil’s wish to protect Kalim, but sometimes a little adventure is just what the doctor ordered. So I’m coming along to witness this lovely little learning experience of yours.”

At the end of Spectral Soiree Silver presents Jamil to Lilia as someone he heavily relied on during their journey through the spectral realm. Lilia declares, “You boys deserve some hearty praise. Good job!,” and Jamil responds, “You’re only a year ahead of me, you know. I’m going to chalk this up to one of your many eccentricities.”
