Jamil possibly learned how to lie from his parents, taught at a young age that he must lie to Kalim: after reprimanding Jamil and calling him foolish in front of Kalim they turn around and tell Jamil that he is actually smart, and must always pretend that he is worse than Kalim at the games they play.
Jamil plots to turn those teachings back on his parents during Beanfest: he decides to prepare an aromatic lunch for Kalim that will attract multiple enemies and enable him to beat Kalim without drawing attention to himself, potentially culminating in lying to his parents about what happened.
Jamil explains, “If by some chance my parents still get cross about it later, well, all I have to do is offer a humble apology. ‘I truly thought it was for his benefit when I packed that lunch.’ That should be enough for them to let the matter go.”
When shopping for ingredients for the lunch that will serve as the trap, Jamil lies to Lilia that it is for a bug repellent potion so as not to attract suspicion to his plot.
After eliminating Kalim himself Jamil says, “Dear me. Who could have expected that the lunch I hand-packed for Kalim would be his downfall?,” aloud, but silently he declares, “What a RUSH this is. Operation Shawarma Sabotage was a complete success! That felt so satisfying to pull off.”
Leona confronts Jamil about having unflattering thoughts about him in a vignette where Jamil claims otherwise, and when Leona insinuates that Jamil is a danger to Kalim, Jamil responds, “Outrageous! I have served him loyally since we were children, and not once has my mind wandered to such heinous deeds.”
In a vignette Vargas refuses to let Jamil leave the sports field until he has tutored Azul in flight, but Azul refuses his assistance, saying, “So you’re doing this out of the goodness of your heart? You truly want nothing? As if I could buy such a blatant lie.”
In order to get around Azul’s rule of never being indebted to anyone Jami seems to fake a sudden, intense interest in receiving a study guide (“I am ever-so desperate. Please, oh, pretty please. I beg you. I will do anything to have it. What if I teach you how to fly in exchange?”), successfully convincing Azul to accept his tutelage.
When Jamil refuses to participate in a group project with Azul he says, “I feel bad for not contributing much. Still, you’re the one who asked to pair up with me, so…” and Azul responds, “Lying comes to you so easily.” Jamil says, “Lying? I beg your pardon. On what basis do you make such an insulting accusation?,” but Azul is proven to be correct: Jamil knew the solution to their project from before the class had even begun, having realized it in an earlier conversation with Riddle, and had been intentionally pretending otherwise so. Azul then blackmails Jamil into revealing the solution.
During a banquet at Scarabia for Crowley a Scarabia student gets Jamil’s attention to reveal that Kalim is not where he is supposed to be for the finale of a parade. Jamil initially responds, “WHAT?!,” but when Crowley asks if something is wrong Jamil says, “No, sir! Nothing at all!”
When Floyd tries to give Jamil a weapon during Beanfest Jamil assumes that he must not be able to see the patch that marks Jamil as a member of the opposing team and decides to uphold the facade, saying, “If I took that off your hands and you ended up in trouble later because of it, I’d be the one taking the blame.” Jade responds, “You’re a real smooth liar,” revealing that he’d known they were enemies from the start.
Vil deems Jamil the worst dancer of the group in the lead-up to Fairy Gala, asking if he knows what it is that he lacks. Jamil decides to work out the problem for himself and discovers Idia by chance in the school courtyard, performing a “bizarre dance.” Jamil looks up the name of the music group that he hears Idia mention and pretends to be a fan in order to get Idia to teach him the dance (“He took the bait. Excellent. I’Il learn what | can. Whatever it takes to improve my dancing”).
Before their Fairy Gala performance they run into a Craft Fairy who asks if they had forgotten their translators. Kalim comes close to revealing the truth and Jamil interrupts with a lie, as they are supposed to be pretending to be fairies, saying, “Yes, that’s right. It’s the one thing we should never leave home without, yet we all did just that. We were in quite the bind, let me tell you.”
When the oveblot group happens upon a panicking member of STYX who refuses to be of any help Jamil approaches by acting concerned,, saying, “We know you want to escape, but it wouldn’t be wise to go by yourself. Allow us to escort you.” This is then revealed to be a ruse meant to achieve the eye contact necessary to invoke his unique magic, which he does.
Jamil also lies to Neige in Book 5, also to establish eye contact to use his unique magic.
When Jamil is noticed during the Spectral Soiree Halloween Party he claims to Silver, “You had this blank look on your face. I came to check up on you in case you were possessed…I was worried I might’ve asked too much of you when we were working together,” but when Cater initially calls out to him Jamil responds, “AH! So you noticed me behind you,” so this was possibly a lie meant to disguise his eavesdropping.
Jamil whispers to Riddle about Malleus’ horns during Glorious Masquerade, but when Malleus asks, “Were you just discussing my horns?,” Jamil replies, “No! Never!”
When he and Ruggie become cut off from the rest of their group by firelotuses during Glorious Masquerade Jamil says, “You won’t care what dirty tricks we pull, right?,” and reveals his plan: tricking Noble Bell College students into sacrificing themselves to the flowers while Ruggie and himself escape.
Afterwards Sebek says, “I’m sure dispatching all those firelotuses was no mean feat for two humans like yourselves” and Jamil responds, “Yes, acting as bait wasn’t easy by any stretch with just the two of us. But we had to do it for all of you. It didn’t matter what happened to us, as long as we could draw them away.” When Silver says, “I should learn from your examples,” Jamil agrees, saying, “By all means, do.”
Ruggie whispers, “Given what these guys just said, and with Riddle’s group looking all happy, there’s no way we can tell any of ’em the truth,” and Jamil responds, “And that’s why I could only pull off that plan with you.”
During the NBC event Sally asks Jamil to try some of a soup she has made and Jamil seems resolved to do so, saying, “Sally’s gone out of her way to help us. It wouldn’t be fair to let her do so much and offer nothing in return,” and, “Please don’t stop me.”
Afterwards he praises the “delicious flavor with plenty of depth,” saying, “It’s both distinctive and stimulating… I’m actually feeling inspired by this.” Afterwards, however his praise is revealed to have been entirely fabricated: he never tried the soup, using a spoon with holes in it to pretend to taste it. (Trey: “So all that stuff about being delicious and having a deep flavor was a lie?”).
