Silver says, “Jamil’s caution and proficient use of magic are both predicated on the fact that he guarded Kalim,” and Jamil is repeatedly shown to be cautious: When Sebek mistakenly goes to Scarabia instead of Diasomia following the school’s opening ceremonies Jamil warns Kalim, saying, “Orientation presents a perfect opportunity for outsiders to sneak inside the school. Be careful…He could be an assassin. It may be a plot to get you to lower your guard. Just in case, I would advise caution.”
When Kalim immediately walks up to Kalim anyway Jamil scolds him for trusting new people too easily, and later on Sebek tells Jamil, “Your discretion is admirable, really. You even immediately thought to verify my magical pen! I could learn a thing or two from you.”
Jamil overlaps with Lilia at the school store prior to Beanfest and opts to not say that he is buying ingredients for shawarma, as he intends to use in a trap for Kalim during the event and does not know if Lilia will be a teammate or an enemy: “It would be a worst-case scenario if Lilia warned Kalim against cooking meat for fear of drawing people to his location.”
Jamil warns Kalim about being “way too fast and loose” with potionology in a vignette, saying, “iI’s important for us to take our time and proceed with caution,” later telling Silver to “Proceed very carefully” with a potion he is brewing.
During the New Year event Jamil comments that “five against two seems a bit more lopsided,” in reference to himself and Malleus doing a takoage battle against five members of Heartslabyul, to which Malleus responds, “Since you’re so afraid, you can watch from the sidelines.” Jamil follows with, “I just prefer to approach things more cautiously.”
Malleus has a New Year voice line of, “This store holds a fascinating selection of items. I saw Viper very carefully return a magical artifact to the shelf after I stated even I didn’t know how to use it.”
When Jack Skellington invites the group to follow after him to Halloweentown Sebek says, “Who would follow that skeleton? It’s beyond suspicious!,” and Jamil agrees, saying, “We should proceed with caution.”
During the event Jamil says, “At times like these, we need to formulate a plan and proceed with caution, or—” (his warning is interrupted by a rat that his mistook for a bug).
After Kalim tells Jamil about receiving tickets to Playfulland he invites Jamil, who says, “ABSOLUTELY NOT! Some strange guy invites you to come play in a strange place, and you’re actually going to GO? That’s completely out of the question, and you know it! Everything about this offer is suspicious. It’s got more red flags than I can count!” Cater says, “Yeah, there’s no way a guy as cautious as Jamil would sign off on this.”
During a Founding Day celebration Jamil cautions the other second-year students, saying, “A little excitement is nice, but be mindful of your surroundings,” and during the Little-Big Adventure event he tells his group, “We need to stay cautious.”
The overblot group struggles to find their way through STYX once escaping from their cells, with Vil saying, “All these hallways look identical. I can’t even tell if we’re going towards the control room.” Jamil responds, “I’ve been leaving marks at every turn we’ve taken. We haven’t passed the same place twice, so we SHOULD be making progress…in theory.”
During their descent into Tartarus Jamil insists on going into dangerous areas alone, telling Leona, “I took the most appropriate course of action. Emergency situations call for extra caution,” and that he is “trying to compensate for (Leona’s) recklessness.”
During Jade’s dream of Book 7 Jamil says they “have to proceed with extra caution,” and when an angry Floyd confronts Jade in his dream Sebek asks if they should join him, but Jamil says no: “If we’re not careful we could wind up ensnared in those tentacles and tailfins in no time. Let’s bide our time and wait for an opportunity.”
Despite how cautious he himself is, Jamil hints that Azul’s own cautiousness makes him a coward, saying in Book 7, “You typically only act after thoroughly researching your enemies. Your cowardice—ah, I mean, your caution makes it hard to imagine you launching an enormous, powerful attack right off the bat.”
