Jamil says, “If my thinking is anything like the Sorcerer of the Sands, then I’d consider that an honor. The legends all talk about him as someone who was always prepared for any situation he found himself in, whether it was the affairs of his country or his own personal desires. I want to be prepared for anything, too, so l can be as great as he was,” and there are many examples in the game of Jamil placing importance upon preparedness.
Floyd says, “Sea Snake gets hung up on every little detail. That ain’t preparedness. More like paranoia, if you ask me.”
Jamil says, “Tourist spots, climate, local cuisine, souvenirs…You can never be too prepared when it comes to reading up in advance,” and reveals that he is preparing for a family vaacation.
Prior to orientation Kalim comments on not knowing where his ceremonial robes are, to which Jamil responds, “Usually, one prepares this sort of thing in advance,” revealing that he proactively had the back expanded and the sleeves lengthened on Kalim’s robes in preparation for the new school year.
In a vignette where Jamil has been assigned to cook a banquet for Crowley with less than 24 hours to prepare, Jamil reveals that he keeps pre-marinated meat in the fridge for just such occasions: “Kalim loves to invite people over without notice, so I try to remain prepared for that sort of thing on a daily basis.”
In another vignette it is revealed that Jamil also prepares for Kalim’s classes on Kalim’s behalf, preparing his textbooks and leaving him notes about not forgetting things.
Jamil makes various preparations prior to Glorious Masquerade, preparing towels, Kalim’s comb, a hair dryer, medicine, soap, Kalim’s comforter, pajamas, and issuing Scarabia dorm a manual on what to do during unforeseen events.
Jamil prepares for Vargas Camp on Kalim’s behalf, sending him medicine, salve, disinfectant, bandages and more (Cater: “Leave it to Jamil to cover all the bases, huh?”).
Jamil also prepares both his and Kalim’s luggage for their return home for the Firelit Sky event, he prepares five alarm clocks for Grim and the prefect to ensure that they will depart on time in the morning, and while Kalim was sleeping prepared by checking their luggage, reviewing the schedule, and making calls back home.
Jamil also arranges for their transportation and tries to protect Malleus from the water of a fountain with an umbrella that he had on hand. Trey asks, “Jamil carries an umbrella even on a clear day like this…?” (Cater: “Talk about ready for anything!”), and Kalim says, “Jamil and I used to play here all the time when we were kids!,” but Jamil follows with, “And I’d bring a change of clothes and towels to dry you off.” Trey observes, “So the umbrella’s for Kalim specifically.”
Realizing that Kalim is planning something for his birthday Jamil says he has been “quietly gathering some intel and asking around,” but after he learns that Kalim and the rest of Scarabia are planning to throw a parade for him he realizes that their “planning is full of holes,” and takes it upon himself to prepare by “surveying the parade route in advance.”
Deuce has a Glorious Masquerade voice line of, “I hear Jamil memorized the names of everyone at the social. I can’t remember any of them…” and Deuce and Jamil overlap in the school store before departing for Fleur City.
Deuce asks, “Are you packing for the trip?,” to which Jamil responds, “On the day before? No, I’ve been packed.”
When Deuce says that he is also ready for the trip Jamil responds, “Are you sure about that? Your confidence actually makes me question it more. I don’t want to have to bail you out just because you weren’t prepared,” and he recommends that Deuce also brings extra bags for souvenirs, an umbrella, a scarf, cotton swabs and soap sheets.
Deuce seems to dismiss every idea except the umbrella (“You’re really paranoid, Jamil”), and Jamil says, “You’re not as bad as our housewarden, but you’re far too optimistic. It’s always better to be prepared.”
During the trip Jamil does exactly what he says he had not wanted to do (re: “I don’t want to have to bail you out just because you weren’t prepared”), going to Deuce’s aid by providing him with a makeshift bag made out of a scarf, opening the zipper on Deuce’s wallet with a combination of soap sheets and cotton swabs, and using all three to get a chocolate stain out of Deuce’s shirt.
When Silver and Jamil discover Jack during Spectral Soiree Silve tells Jamil to drape a blanket around Jack’s shoulders, to which Jamil responds, “I didn’t bring a blanket with me. Neither did you for that matter. Now, aluminum foil on the other hand, is great for emergencies. It’s compact, retains heat, and fits in your pocket…like so,” so it seems that Jamil had brought along aluminum foil, possibly kept in a pocket of his Halloween costume. (Silver: “Oh, I see! That’s some Scarabian foresight right there.”)
It seems that Jamil also carries wet wipes with him, sanitizing his hands twice during the NBC event after Skully kisses him and providing one to Najma during the Firelit Sky event. He possibly also carries motion sickness medicine with him, also seen during Firelit Sky.
During the Tapis Rouge event Jamil tells Vil that he “scoped out (their) seats for the preview,” and he and Azul both “scoped out the back entrance” to the venue the night before in preparation (Ace: “Wait, that’s what you were doing?! I figured you and Azul went out partyin’ somewhere…”)
