After hearing a story from Silver about an unspecified “hero” who “started an avalanche and singlehandedly defeated the enemy army” with their bare hands Jamil responds, “That sounds a bit farfetched. But then again, I guess all heroic tales get embellished over time,” and Jamil might have a more realistic outlook than some: when a bird perches on Silver’s shoulder in the botanical gardens Kalim asks, “Is it trying to make you feel better?,” and Silver responds, “Maybe it is,” but Jamil says, “Are you two serious? This isn’t a fairy tale, you know. The birds in the garden are just used to being around people.”
Kalim says that after he told Jamil about Playfulland, an “illusionary” amusement park, Jamil responded, “It’s probably just made up. Don’t believe everything you hear.”
When Kalim invites Jamil to the park itself Jamil refuses, saying, “You just HAPPENED to meet a guy who manages an illusionary amusement park, AND he gave you free tickets? Things that fortuitous don’t just happen.” (Kalim: “But it did happen! Isn’t that cool?”)
After Vil’s overblot it is Jamil who considers their options for repairing the coliseum, saying, “I’d prefer to fix the venue up, dispel the curse, and get out of here, but Ii’s not feasible for us to fix everything up the way it was with what power we have left. Every scenario I run through my head hits the same brick wall. I’m not sure there’s any getting out of this mess.” (Malleus solves the issue with a less-than-realistic solution that Jamil had not considered.)
After their performance Jamil tempers the expectations of the other members of the group, saying, “It’s a little early to start patting ourselves on the back, don’t you think? It’s not over until we hear the results,” and, when Ace declares, “I deserve that prize money!,” Jamil responds, “Someone’s getting ahead of themselves.”
When Vil takes full responsibility for their VDC loss Jamil responds, “Neige’s group was already popular. Our performance wasn’t going to change that. If we’d been at our best, that doesn’t mean we would’ve performed perfectly. And even if we had, we still could’ve lost. You can’t always beat someone that popular with hard work or a solid performance.”
When Kalim declares that the prize money they received from Vil for repairs to Ramshackle means fixing leaks, replacing wallpaper and curtains and reupholster couches Jamil responds, “Our priority should be repairing the plumbing, gas, and any other essential utilities. We’ll start by listing out the necessary repairs and seeing what the budget can cover…”
Malleus is the only member of the Firelit Sky group to express concern over Malleus joining them without a chaperone, saying, “Malleus is royalty. What if something happens to him while his chaperone isn’t present?! It could set off an international incident well beyond our control!”
Cater observes, “Malleus and Kalim are so blissfully unaware of the struggles of those around them,” and Jamil is ultimately forced to concede.
During the event itself Jamil is not impressed by a a vendor who claims to be selling a lamp that grants three wishes to its owner, telling Grim, “If that was a real magic lamp, it would be a legendary ancient artifact. There’s no way someone would sell it for that price. It’s fake. He just took a replica lamp and treated it to make it look older than it is. It’s a classic trick to overcharge tourists for cheap goods.”
