A recently-awakened Jamil is suspicious of the group that appears in his dream of Book 7, saying, “I have to admit, I wasn’t entirely sure the rest of you weren’t more illusions I subconsciously conjured up…but I never would’ve thought of the cheat tools idea that Idia came up with. There’s still a chance that’s somehow part of the illusion Malleus created…but it would make no sense to bring it up to me at all, if that were the case. So it’s probably safe to accept that all of you aren’t illusions created by me or Malleus.”
Jamil is suspicious even when still asleep during his dream of Book 7, asking the group who they are and only accepting their explanation after a long pause (“I suppose there’s nothing strange about that”).
Jamil is suspicious of Sebek from the start of the new school year, warning Kalim that he could be an assassin. After Sebek’s identity is confirmed he apologizes for losing his temper at being suspected, saying, “You even immediately thought to verify my magical pen! I could learn a thing or two from you.”
Kalim describes the fireworks festival of the Firelit Sky event as “super famous,” saying, “I just love the way the whole city comes alive,” but Jamil mumbles to himself, Well, there are some in power who use their influence to make money off of it as well..”
Jamil is also suspicious of Floyd during Beanfest when he tells Jamil of Kalim’s location, as he is not in the mood to join the game. Jamil reflects, “I still feel like I’m missing something, but | should probably get out of here before he changes his mind.”
At the end of the Halloween event Jamil is suspicious of how little Azul eats at the party, saying, “Is there a scheme in the works I should know about?,” and what asked what other dorm he would transfer to Jamil responds, “I would avoid Octavinelle. I’d be constantly trying to guess people’s motives there; I’d never have time to relax.”
When asked when he wants to do in the next year Jamil responds, “I want to study the cultures of different lands,” explaining, “I think it’ll help me interact with the locals when I’m finally able to travel…if you don’t understand the culture of the person you’re talking to, you could end up offending them unintentionally. I want to study up and try to prevent any missteps on my part.” He then quietly adds, “…Well, that, and also because I don’t want to get taken advantage of by anyone either.”
Jamil has a voice line where he sounds suspicious of Rollo, saying, “Model students Like him are the ones you have to look out for. You never know what they’re plotting deep down,” and was possibly also suspicious of his own tsum: “You’re a tsum, but you’re not a handful. That’s actually worrying. You’re not thinking up any mischief, are you?”
Jamil and Sebek both greet Skully by capturing him with a binding spell, and Jamil physically silences Epel when he almost volunteers the name of their school to Skully, saying, “Considering the situation we’re in, we should be pumping this guy for information, not volunteering our own.” (Skully: “You seem suspicious of me. Not that I can blame you, of course.”)
In a vignette we see Crowley drop a Scalding Sands travel guide in front of Kalim (“How uncharacteristically clumsy of me”), explaining how he was considering visiting for his next vacation but he is worried about the food agreeing with his “delicate palate.” Kalim responds, “There’s an easy fix for that-come to Scarabia!
Jamil will make you all sorts of traditional dishes to try,” leaving Jamil with less than 24 hours to prepare a banquet for the headmage. Jamil responds, “Did he drop that guide on purpose? An expertly laid snare, if so…”
After Kalim explains that he transferred to NRC two months late, having suddenly received a letter of acceptance one months into the school year for a reason he has forgotten. Deuce asks, “So they belatedly recognized the nature of your soul?,” and Jamil responds, “I’m still skeptical that the Dark Mirror actually selects students based on that. Knowing the headmage, he probably arranged for a backdoor admission so he could get some generous Asim family donations.”
